タラバガニ科（タラバガニか、 Lithodoidea）は、甲殻類十脚目（エビ目）異尾下目に分類される科。分類学上は、いわゆるカニ（短尾下目）ではなく、ヤドカリ（ヤドカリ下目）に属する。
目次
「カニ」との違い
タラバガニ科の「カニ」は、形態的にも、分子系統学的にも、いわゆる「カニ」（短尾下目（カニ下目））ではない。形態上の「カニ」との大きな違いは、4つある[1]。
- 第4脚
カニは、歩行用に第4脚が発達しているので、ハサミ1対と脚4対があるように見える。タラバガニ科では、一見すると、ハサミ1対と脚3対に見える。実際には第4脚が存在するが、短く、鰓室内に差し込まれている[1]。
- メスの腹部が左右非対称
カニは、腹部が左右対称で、腹肢が両側にある。タラバガニ科では、メスの腹部は右側にねじれ、腹肢は左側だけに残る。[1]
- 第2触覚
カニはごく短いが、タラバガニ科は糸状で長い[1]。
- ハサミ脚の腕節
カニに比べて長い[1]。
特徴
タラバガニ科の多くは寒海性で、南方では深海に生息する。大型種が多く、水産の面で重要なものが多い。とくに重要なのは北半球に生息するタラバガニ属のタラバガニ、南半球のチリイバラガニ（商業上は「ミナミタラバガニ」等と称する）など[1]。これに次ぐのがイバラガニ属で、欧米ではタラバガニ属もイラバガニ属も「king crab」と呼ばれる。タラバガニ属とイバラガニ属では腹節の構造に違いがあり、タラバガニ属は腹部の節が膜で細分化され第2腹節は5節に分かれているのに対し、イバラガニ属は細分化されておらず第2腹節は3節からなる[1]。

イボトゲガニ属
かつてイボトゲガニ（Hapalogastridae）は、「イボトゲガニ属」としてタラバガニ科の下位におかれていた[20]。いまはイボトゲガニ科として独立している。
シワガニ（Dermaturus mandtii）[21]、イボガニ（Oedignathus、O.inermis[22]）も同様に、かつてはタラバガニ科に属していたが、いまはイボトゲガニ科の下位におかれている。
