Cosmic Bomb engaged in a thrilling duel with the Maine Chance Farm's Jet Pilot, 8-5 favorite, down the stretch.

Running as team through the stretch at the head of the field of eleven in this forty-second version of the Spa's richest race, Blue Border and William Helis' Cosmic Bomb charged under the wire not more than two inches apart.

前半は全馬が一団ですすみ、ゴールではCBと激しい競り合いになり、ゴールライン入線の時点では両馬は2インチも差がなかった。

but then objection sign was lighted , and after a brief delay Cosmic Bomb's number came down out of the No.2 position.The crowd was puzzled till the anouncer told what happened.
Grabs Victor's Saddle Cloth
Near the finish line Shelby Clark, riding the second-choice Cosmic Bomb along the trail and seeing victory about to elude him, reached over in desperation and grabbed Blue Border's saddle cloth.
But Myron D.Davis up in the patrol judge's stand just in front of the wire, saw what had happened.
The officials promptly took action.
Clark was suspended immediately and his case refered to the stewards of the Jockey Club.
So second money of $6000, instead of going to Helis, went to Mrs.Isabel Dodge Sloane, whose Brookmeade colors were carried by Grand Admiral.
